Abstract

A study was carried out on the abiotic and biotic characteristics of the Sungai Tahan water catchment which is located within Taman Negara (The National Park) boundary. The morphological features such as topography, drainage pattern, stream order classification and river profiles are discussed. The water quality data collected during the study period indicated that tributaries of the Sungai Tahan water catchment were very clean with low mineral content, soft and weakly acidic. The sediment and allocthonous input were very low at this river system. On the whole, the physical and chemical environmental conditions in the Sungai Tahan water catchment were more stable than those in the Tembeling river.
