Abstract

A haematological study on ten captive leopard cats (Felis bengalensis) from local zoos was conducted to determine the basic haematological values. The total red blood cells (RBC) and white blood cells (WBC) averaged 7.89 and 10.72 per million/cmm respectively. Neutrophils are the most numerous of the WBC, followed by lymphocytes. Haemoglobin averaged 12.85%. The packed cell volume (PCV) ranged from 24•40 %. The relative percentage of monocytes is high in the leopard cat. However, the haematological values for the captive leopard cat are comparable to other wild felines and the domestic cat.
