Abstract

The fencing techniques used in the three deer farms under the Department of Wildlife and National Parks have to be further reviewed to obtain the least possible costs. The initial practise of stocking the animal on the pasture of Guinea, Setaria and Brachiaria decumbens receiving very low rate of fertilizer (150kg N, 30kg P and 50kg K/hect./2 yr) at 10-13 animals per hectre, destroyed the planted exotic grasses after about 2 years. For easy management of grass each paddock should be planted with only one type of grass. This is due to the selective feeding habit of deer. To obtain the maximum returns from deer farming, each farm should have enough basic requirements such as fertilizer, water supply, tractor and other working facilities.
