Abstract

Pulau Kelumpang or Kelumpang Island is located on the north-west of the coast of Perak, latitude 5:50 and longitude 101 °30'. It consists of 40,929 hectares of wetland, mainly mangrove forest with prominent species such as Avicenia spp., Rhizophora spp., and Acrostichum spp. (Jeyarajasingam, 1983). This island is very important in terms of conservation of breeding ground for coastal birds such iS Black-Crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax); Lesser Adjutant Stork (Laproprilos javanicus) and the rare Milky Stork (Mycraria cinerea). This paper aims to highlight some of the studies conducted by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks on the avian fauna of the island and its surrounding areas.
