Abstract

Eleven elephants have been translocated to Pulau Besar, the largest island in the reservoir which was created by the impoundment of Kenyir Dam. The study was conducted from April 1985 until February 1986. The aim of the study was to monitor the movement of the elephants in its new habitat by using general survey and census. The home range of the elephant is restricted around the perimeter of the island which is about 96 km². The study showed that the elephant had utilized almost the whole island.
