Abstract

This paper presents the population and distribution of elephant in the state of Johore, based on reports sent by rangers of Elephant Control Unit in the course of their routine works. The number of elephant for 1983 showed a 50 percent increase compared to the 1981 figure that is, from 70 to 105 animals. The increase was mostly the result of the discovery of new herds (due to habitat distruction) and natural breeding.
