Abstract

The total number of common redshank (Tringa totanus) caught from October 10 April of 1987/1988 and 1988/1989 wintering seasons was 2,677 birds. The highest number of birds having active moult were caught in October of both years. There is no significance difference between moult stages from November to January. Though the number of birds caught were high during these months, there were almost equal chances of each stage of moulting occuring. Completion of moult occurred mostly to birds caught after October where more than 90% of them having just completed moult. There is a high significance difference in moult stages from February to April. There is a significance increase in body weight of common redshank from October to April. The mean body weight of common redshank tend to increase with the increase in the number of birds caught having just completed moult.
