Abstract

The survey was conducted at Sungai Tebuk, Parit 30, Kuala Kurau, Perak from Nov 15 -19, 1989. The heronry was estimated to be 14,350 m2 where a total of 6,794 nests were counted with 3,477 eggs, newly hatched youngs 1,458, young with down feathers 8,076, young showing early stage of growth in wing primaries (lntermediate) 1,362 and fully-fledged youngs 224. The mortalily was found to be 2.15% while 97.85% survived. Twenty five percent of lhe total number of nests contained eggs while 69.11170 contained hatchlings and 5.9 percent of the nests were inactive. The average number of eggs in each nest was found to be 2.0, and the nest density was found to be 0.47 nest/m². The number of young which batch successfully from the estimated 12,754 breeding birds, was estimated to be 14,597.
