Abstract

Chemical immobilization is preffered to physical restrain when dealing with trapped serow for the safety of the animal and the handler. Chemicals used are Etorphine Hydrocchloride, Acepromazine Maleate and Atropine Sulfatee. Two free-ranging serows (Capricorrnis sumalraensis) were immobilized at thre trap using these chemicals. A comparison between wild and captive serows is made regarding the dosage of the chemicals used, induction time and the recovery period. Guidelines on tranquilizing wild serows are also discussed.
