Abstract

Small mammals survey was carried out at Sungai Chenderoh, Perlok, Krau Wildlife Reserve, Pahang in March 1995. The forest in the study area was lowland dipterocarp that was dominated by Shorea spp. and Intsia palembanica. Caged life traps were used to capture terrestrial small mammals and mist-nets were used to capture bats. All animals obtained were preserved for museum collection. During the five days trapping, a total of 160 specimens were collected which comprised of 24 species from three orders belonging to six families. Bats were more represented than rodents and tree shrews combined. Among the fruit bats Balionycteris maculata were mostly collected with 13 individuals while Rhinolophus affinis (34), Rhinolophus stheno (29) and Rhinalophus macrotis (27) were mostly collected among the insect bats. The observation that 38.9% of the females were gravid indicates that March is probably one of the peak reproductive period.
