Abstract

A total of 14 species of lizards and snakes were examined for ecto-and endoparasitic infection. All the four species of lizards (3 monitor species and 1 sun lizard) were found to be infected with only a species of tick, Aponoma lucasi, suggesting the parasite is highly host-specific. Seven of the 12 species of snakes examined were found infected with three species of ticks, Arnblyoma helbolum, Am, cordiferum and Ixodes granulatus. Among these ectoparasites, I. granulatus, normally infected wann-blooded animals, was the second record of this tick found in cold-blooded snake, the Banded krait (Bungarus fasciats). The other two species of ticks recovered have a wider range of host species. Nine of 12 species of snakes were found infected with endoparasites. Seven species of nematodes, pentastomids and acanthocephaJa were recovered and they are common endoparasites of the reptile taxon.
