Abstract

The palms represent one of the glories of Taman Negara as a large number of Peninsular Malaysia's rich assemblage of palms occurs within the park boundary (Dransfield and Whitmore, 1969). Not only that, but several species seem to be confined to the park or are very rare elsewhere. Taman Negara as the single national park in Malaysia, with good representation of the most vegetation types, thus has very special importance in the conservation of palms.
