Abstract

Most of the wild fruit tree species reported from Peninsular Malaysia are represented in Taman Negara. The distribution of adult fruit tree species is few and scattered with not more than 4 stems in 100 hectares for some Mangifera species. The wild fruit tree species reported from Pahang is presented. Lack of research findings on the biology of the wild fruit species makes it almost impossible to predict the number of trees to be conserved to maintain a viable breeding population In Its natural habitats. Based on suggestions from temperate countries 10,000 adult trees were considered as a breeding population for which an area of 250,000 ha of primary forest have to be conserved in perpetuity. In Peninsular Malaysia this is possible only in Taman Negara.
